The People's Purse Project
The People’s Purse Project is a private, opt-in community of supporters who have shown up for Faith Roots and the people we serve and who want to help us respond quickly when someone is facing an urgent funding gap.
Sometimes, the difference between someone being able to access the care they need and having to delay or go without, comes down to just a few hundred dollars.
Recently, we assisted someone who was traveling from out of state who was worried about her safety due to domestic violence. Over months she had saved enough money for her procedure, but she was unable to use her debit card for travel expenses.
Last month, we had a caller from Carlsbad. Because travel time to the nearest clinic was over four hours, she delayed her care and arrived at the clinic further in her pregnancy than expected. Her procedure cost had more than doubled and she would need to stay overnight in a hotel.
That’s where the People’s Purse comes in.
These situations are often time-sensitive, and a group of rapid responders can help us quickly close the gap.
People’s Purse members will receive occasional messages about urgent funding requests as needs arise. Donations are made securely through our donation platform, allowing us to provide support quickly when someone needs it. And we will notify you as soon as we close the funding gap.
We want to be transparent: there may be frequent asks, depending on the needs of our community. There is absolutely no obligation to give every time. But by joining, you’re simply letting us know that you’re open to hearing from us when an urgent need comes up, and that when you can, you’re willing to help us respond.
Your gift might be as little as $10, or as big as whatever feels meaningful and possible for you. Sometimes, it only takes a handful of people stepping forward to close the gap.
